Is there anyone who shouldn’t take the contraceptive pill?

The pill is a popular and effective method of contraception, but it may not be suitable for all women. 

The contraceptive pill may not be appropriate for you if you: 

  • are over 35 and smoke

  • have a personal or family history of blood clots

  • have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or above 

  • have a history of migraines  

  • have high blood pressure or heart disease

  • have had a stroke in the past

  • have a history of breast cancer

  • have liver or kidney problems

  • have complications of diabetes
