Frequently asked questions

Yes, Dr Arif has a specialist interest in perimenopause and sees many women who are experiencing symptoms such as irregular periods, mood changes, brain fog, and sleep disruption while still menstruating. She uses detailed menopause diagnostics to assess your hormonal profile and can prescribe tailored hormone replacement therapy (HRT), including testosterone therapy where appropriate. With over 18 years of NHS experience in women's health, she takes a holistic approach that considers your overall wellbeing alongside hormonal changes.

Dr Arif treats endometriosis as part of her specialist women's health practice, focusing on symptom management, hormonal treatments, and ongoing support. She can offer contraceptive and hormonal therapies, including coil fittings, to help manage pain and heavy bleeding associated with endometriosis. She also works alongside other specialists where surgical or multidisciplinary input is needed.

Absolutely. Dr Arif lists low libido, painful sex (dyspareunia), and vaginismus among her specialist areas, and she takes a sensitive, evidence-based approach to these concerns. She can investigate underlying causes, which may include hormonal changes, vulval skin conditions, or genitourinary syndrome of the menopause, and offer treatments such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or topical therapies. She also speaks Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi, which can be important for patients who feel more comfortable discussing intimate concerns in their first language.

Yes, Dr Arif sees patients from age 12 upwards and has a specific interest in adolescent menstrual dysfunction. She can assess and manage heavy, painful, or irregular periods in teenagers and young women, including investigating conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Her manner is approachable and informed by her work as a health educator and broadcaster, making her well-suited to younger patients who may be seeing a specialist for the first time.
