About Zubeir Ali
Mr Zubeir Ali is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at The Royal London Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust, where he has served for over a decade. As the Kidney Stone and Endourology Lead at this prestigious institution, he brings a wealth of expertise to his role.
Mr Ali completed his undergraduate medical studies at UCL and the University of Glasgow, before undertaking his specialist postgraduate training in the North West Deanery, gaining comprehensive experience in a wide range of urological conditions. To further refine his subspecialty knowledge, he completed a post-CCT fellowship focused on kidney stone surgery and complex endourology.
A highly skilled and high-volume kidney stone surgeon, Mr Ali is an expert in all aspects of kidney stone management, including shockwave lithotripsy, ureteroscopy with laser, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), including miniaturised PCNL. He is proficient in independently establishing PCNL tract access and also collaborates with colleagues on complex cases that benefit from robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Xi robotic system.
In addition, Mr Ali leads a specialist Metabolic Kidney Stone Clinic dedicated to reducing stone recurrence. He is also an experienced general urologist, offering expertise in the assessment and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs), haematuria (blood in urine), urinary symptoms, and scrotal problems.
Mr Ali serves as the Education Lead for Urology at The Royal London Hospital. He is also part of the faculty for subspecialist training courses and frequently lectures on advanced surgical techniques both in the UK and internationally. Yes, but only for certain services. Some consultations, assessments, and treatments can be booked directly, while others require a GP or specialist referral. Please check the relevant service page for guidance, and contact the centre if you’re unsure.
We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
