Difficulty with emptying the bowels
Read on to find out more about biofeedback and pelvic floor treatment and how it can improve your pelvic floor function.
Biofeedback for males
Here at Welbeck, we often provide biofeedback for males with urinary incontinence, an overactive bladder, difficulty controlling or emptying their bowel movements – offering improved bladder and bowel control.
Our treatment is also suitable for men recovering from prostate surgery, helping strengthen their pelvic floor so they can regain urinary continence.
Biofeedback for women
Biofeedback is just as beneficial for women as it is for men.
It can help them to identify and control their pelvic floor muscles, reducing the frequency and severity of urinary or faecal incontinence over time. It can be helpful in improving pelvic floor function post childbirth or as symptoms may occur during the menopause.
How does biofeedback work?
Biofeedback at Welbeck is a unique service set up by Miss Lucy Allen in 2020. The term Biofeedback is an umbrella term to encompass all the treatment modalities on offer to help with a wide range of digestive, gynaecological and urological issues. We use state of the art pelvic floor diagnostic equipment and dynamic ultrasound to help you locate and improve your pelvic floor function. We will also address the mechanics of how you empty your bowel to relearn the most effective way and improve symptoms. For pelvic floor and pain rehabilitation we can use the biofeedback machine for visual feedback or the MAPLe EMG device as a way of teaching adults how to strengthen or relax their pelvic floor muscles so they can benefit from improved bladder and bowel control.
Each session typically lasts 30-60 minutes and you’ll be given advice and exercises to practice at home, between your appointments.
