
About Adam Hartley
Dr Adam Hartley MBBS PhD BSc(Hons) DIC PGCert FRCP FESC is a Consultant Cardiologist and the Clinical Governance Lead for Cardiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with his specialist interests in Coronary (stent implantation) and Structural (TAVI) Intervention alongside General Cardiology. He holds the role of Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Sciences at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
He was awarded all distinctions throughout his six years of undergraduate training at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School in 2013. Furthermore, he achieved 1st class honours and the Best Intercalating Student in Pharmacology Award for his Intercalated BSc in Pharmacology. He was also granted a prestigious scholarship from the British Heart Foundation.
He undertook his postgraduate general medical training in Northwest London, which included training in Cardiology, Heart and Lung Transplantation, as well as Respiratory medicine. He was ranked number one for Cardiology in London when applying to higher training as a Specialist Registrar in Cardiology. He was therefore appointed as a National Institute for Health Research Academic Clinical Fellow in Cardiology at Imperial College London and completed his Cardiology training at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Dr Hartley completed a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences in the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London. His field of research focused on the prediction, detection and treatment of high-risk atherosclerotic plaques which lead to heart attacks. He was one of very few granted a prestigious fellowship by the Wellcome Trust to fund his PhD research. Amongst other accolades, he was awarded a Basic Science Grant from the European Society of Cardiology and was a finalist for both the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Young Investigator Award and Royal Society of Medicine Cardiology Presidents Prize.
He is both a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Dr Hartley achieved a merit for his Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education, awarded by Cardiff University, and is a lecturer on the Cardiovascular BSc programme at Imperial College London. He is an educational supervisor to Cardiology resident doctors at Imperial and is an examiner for both MSc programmes and medical programme within Imperial College London.

Dr Hartley's research interests include coronary artery disease, vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques that are prone to rupture and cause heart attacks, as well as structural heart interventions including TAVI.
