About Amal Muthumala

Dr Amal Muthumala is a consultant cardiologist based at Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts Heart Centre) and North Middlesex Hospital. He gained his medical qualification (MB BChir) in 2001 from the University of Cambridge and worked in London before training in general cardiology at the Oxford deanery. Following that, he completed specialist fellowships in Complex Devices and Advanced Heart Failure in Calgary, Canada, and at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

He earned his MD (Res) in Cardiovascular Genetics from University College London in 2009 and became a certified cardiac device specialist in 2012. In 2014, he was awarded his CCT in cardiology.

Dr Muthumala has previously been the Clinical Lead for Heart Failure at North Middlesex, and he is currently the Clinical Lead for Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy at Barts Heart Centre.

Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
