About Aran Singanayagam

Dr Aran Singanayagam is a fully qualified consultant physician with GMC Registration 6120429. He completed his medical qualification at the University of Edinburgh in 2005 achieving distinction in his final examinations alongside a first class intercalated BSc in Physiology. His specialist respiratory medicine training occurred primarily at St Mary’s, Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.

Dr Singanayagam currently sees both NHS and private patients. He specialises in all aspects of respiratory medicine (any condition or symptom affecting the lungs/breathing). This includes asthma, COPD/emphysema, lung infections (acute and chronic), post COVID19 respiratory problems, bronchiectasis, sleep disorders, pneumonia, tuberculosis and allergic lung disease. As a recognised international expert, Dr Singanayagam is frequently asked to provide second opinions for difficult cases.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, Dr Singanayagam also leads a translational research group which studies the lung's immune system with the aim of developing new therapies for respiratory diseases. He spearheads a range of patient-focussed studies and clinical trials. He has been awarded >£4million in research funding including a recent ~£1.9million grant by the Medical Research Council to study the role played by viruses in promoting flare-ups of the lung condition bronchiectasis. Dr Singanayagam has received prestigious investigator awards from the British Thoracic Society (BTS), the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. He is a member of the BTS Science and Research Committee. He sits on the Editorial Board of The European Respiratory Journal and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and has published over 100 papers to date with a H index of 52.

Dr Singanayagam is internationally recognised as a leading respiratory clinical academic and regularly gives lectures at scientific conferences and provides commentary in the scientific and mainstream media.
