About Carolyn Millar

Dr Carolyn Millar is a Consultant Haematologist specialising in thrombosis and haemostasis (clotting and bleeding problems) and obstetric haematology. Her NHS practice is based across Hammersmith, Charing Cross, and St Mary's hospitals and she is an expert in obstetric haematology, leading the obstetric haematology service at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea hospital. Dr Millar is an internationally recognised specialist, has over 25 years of experience managing patients with bleeding and thrombotic problems and was the clinical lead for haemostasis and thrombosis at the Hammersmith hospital for over 10 years.

After graduating with honours, Dr Millar’s postgraduate medical training was undertaken at University College London, Hammersmith Hospital and St George's Hospital and she received her specialist haematology training at the Hammersmith, Royal Free and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. Her doctoral thesis at University College London investigated the role of glycans in von Willebrand factor and their relation to von Willebrand disease.

Dr Millar was appointed Consultant Haematologist in 2008 with joint academic appointment at Imperial College London having been awarded a prestigious Higher Education Funding Council for England clinical senior lecturer position. She remains active in research as well as holding a number of academic leadership and senior undergraduate teaching positions at Imperial College. Dr Millar's work is widely published and she lectures around the world in her areas of interest. She is the elected chair of the UK working party on von Willebrand disease and has led on the development of national guidelines to optimise treatment for all patients as well as contributing to the work of various national bodies including NHSE and NICE. A caring and skilled clinician, Dr Millar combines her internationally recognised expertise in haematology with a passion for individualised patient care of the highest standard.
