About Ernie Wong

Dr Ernie Wong is a consultant respiratory physician with specialist interest in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His NHS practice is based at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where he is the clinical lead for asthma. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He holds a PhD investigating the role of the airway microbiome in asthma exacerbation. His current research collaborations include the use of an AI chatbot in optimising asthma control, the impact of air pollution in asthma and the role of hormones in asthma.

In addition to leading the asthma service, he also runs general respiratory clinics and acute medical on-calls, reviewing a broad range of respiratory and medical conditions. He has expertise in managing COVID/ Post-COVID and made a number of national TV appearances including the BBC documentary 'Your Body Uncovered'.

Personal biography

Dr Ernie Wong graduated from Imperial College London in 2006 and trained in respiratory and general medicine at the most prestigious centres in London, including the Royal Brompton Hospital, King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital. He completed his PhD at Imperial College London. He has been a consultant at St Mary’s Hospital since 2017.
