About Sarah Wakelin
Dr Sarah Wakelin is a Consultant Dermatologist at Welbeck Skin Health & Allergy. She also works part-time at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust London, where she has run the Cutaneous Allergy diagnostic service since her appointment as a consultant in 1999. She was appointed as honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College in recognition of her work as dermatology module lead for the Imperial College Allergy postgraduate diploma and MSc courses up to 2019. She is a regional representative for the British Society for Cutaneous Allergy and lectures regularly at educational updates. She has also served on the Therapeutics and Guidelines committee of the British Association of Dermatologists and is a former President of the St John’s Dermatology Society.
As well as treating adults, Dr Wakelin treats children aged 14 and over.
Dr Sarah Wakelin has authored and edited many texts and journals including Your Guide to Eczema, a Colour Handbook of Dermatology and she devised and edits the Handbook of Systemic Drug Treatment in Dermatology which is published globally. Additionally, she has acted as an advisor for pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetic companies.
Dr Sarah Wakelin qualified as medical doctor at King’s College, London in 1988 and spent three years working in general medicine before specialising in dermatology and completed her higher specialist training in dermatology in 1998.
Dr Wakelin then studied at the Institute of Dermatology, St John’s Hospital in London to specialise in allergic skin diseases where she became the Senior Registrar in the Contact Dermatitis and Occupational Skin Disease Department.
She is also a co-organiser of the dermatology module in the Imperial College Post Graduate Diploma and MSc in clinical allergy courses and has been granted the title of Honorary Senior Lecturer in recognition of this.
