
About Stela Ziaj
Dr Stela Ziaj is a Consultant Dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust London, where she leads the regional Melanoma and Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team. She previously worked as a Consultant Dermatologist at Oxford University Hospitals.
She sees patients across the full range of general dermatology, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and mole assessment. She has a particular specialist focus on skin cancer and Mohs' Micrographic Surgery.
Dr Ziaj qualified with honours from University College London Medical School and completed an intercalated BSc in Molecular Medicine, for which she won the National Arthritis Research Prize. She undertook dermatology specialty training at major teaching hospitals, including St John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, and the Welsh Institute of Dermatology. She then completed an accredited post-CCT Fellowship in Mohs' Micrographic Surgery and Advanced Surgery in Oxford.
In addition to her UK training, Dr Ziaj has undertaken international training in Brussels, Amsterdam and Valencia, and completed a clinical attachment at Yale University Dermatology Department in the USA.
During her training, Dr Ziaj carried out research in skin cancer, leading to multiple national and international presentations and publications in high impact journals. She has received several awards and scholarships, including a UK World Dermatology Congress Scholarship, an American Academy of Dermatology Scholarship, a European Academy Best Scientific Presentation award, and a British Society for Dermatological Surgery Travel Fellowship.
Dr Ziaj has contributed to the national Skin Cancer Surgery Priority Setting Partnership, the development of national guidelines, and recruitment to clinical trials. She has also been involved in education and training for doctors and dermatology master's students, particularly in skin cancer and skin surgery.
Her clinical approach is evidence-based and tailored to each patient's needs, with an emphasis on careful listening, clear explanation and precise treatment.
