Mr Jonathan Dunne
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
About Jonathan Dunne
Mr Jonathan Dunne is a consultant plastic surgeon specialising in skin cancer surgery and complex facial reconstruction. He has led the Skin Cancer Department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for the past five years and founded the Imperial Facial Reconstruction Centre. He is an active melanoma researcher, leading the international DEPLOY study and serving as a principal investigator on major international melanoma trials.
Mr Dunne brings more than 15 years of experience in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, from the removal of skin cancers on the face to complex head and neck reconstruction and facial aesthetic surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Plast) and has a focus on compassionate care, providing his patients with the best experience and outcomes.
He qualified in medicine at the University of Bristol, with an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Medical Microbiology, and later completed an MSc in Health Research at Leeds. He trained in Bristol, Yorkshire, Sydney and Malawi before completing specialist plastic surgery training across leading London teaching hospitals, including Chelsea & Westminster, the Royal Free, St George’s and Charing Cross. He is uniquely trained across every aspect of facial plastic surgery. He undertook two additional years of subspecialty fellowships in minimally invasive skin cancer treatment (Mohs surgery), head and neck microvascular surgery, facial palsy, and craniofacial and aesthetic surgery. He completed further observerships in Melbourne, Boston and Stockholm, and aesthetic training at leading London hospitals including The Wellington, King Edward VII’s, The London Clinic and St John & St Elizabeth.
Mr Dunne is chief investigator of DEPLOY, an international study of desmoplastic melanoma in partnership with Melanoma Institute Australia and UK units. He is Imperial’s principal investigator for MelMarT-II and for SNB-Time International, which looks at how surgical timing affects sentinel node biopsy outcomes. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and is co-author of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Head & Neck Anatomy. He has also written several book chapters, including a forthcoming chapter in Scott-Brown’s Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery. He is regularly invited to speak at international meetings on facial plastic surgery and skin cancer.
He is committed to surgical education and is a trustee of the Malawi Burns Trust and of BFIRST (British Foundation for International Reconstructive Surgery and Training).
Mr Dunne’s philosophy is centred on meticulous surgical technique, careful pre-operative planning and an unhurried, consultative approach. He believes that the best aesthetic and reconstructive outcomes come from a thorough understanding of each patient’s anatomy, goals and concerns, combined with a commitment to patient safety and long-term results.

We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
