About Joseph Gabriel

Mr Joseph Gabriel is a Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon with a Special Interest in Prostate Cancer, with NHS appointments at both Imperial College and Chelsea and Westminster where he is the lead clinician for urological cancers.  He specialises in both cutting edge focal therapy (HIFU and cryotherapy) and minimally-invasive robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) for prostate cancer, including the Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy approach which has been shown to improve early urinary continence outcomes. This makes him one of few dual-accredited (robotic and focal) prostate cancer surgeons in the UK, able to offer his patients a tailored and balanced approach to treatment.

He also offers the full spectrum of operations for investigation and treatment of prostate, bladder and urological conditions, including cystoscopy, prostate biopsies (including MRI-fusion), TURBT, circumcision, vasectomy, hydrocele repair, epididymal cyst excision, ureteroscopy and laser stone fragmentation.

Mr Gabriel qualified from Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2015, graduating with distinctions and prizes. He subsequently completed his surgical and urological training in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery training in tertiary  robotic urology units before winning the prestigious robotic pelvic cancer fellowship at the Royal Surrey in Guildford, the highest volume single-centre for robotic prostate cancer surgery in the UK. He was then appointed a locum then substantive Consultant at the age of 33.

He holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh. He is the Lead Clinician for urological cancers at Chelsea and Westminster NHSFT, sits on the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Digital Innovation Group, and was previously elected to the national executive committee of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Section of Trainees as a registrar. He has presented research nationally and internationally, with an academic interest in robotic surgery and artificial intelligence. He has authored publications in peer-reviewed journals including the BJUI and has Chaired sessions on AI at international medical conferences.

We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.

Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.

Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
