Mr Nigel Day
Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon
About Nigel Day
Mr Nigel Day is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of abdominal, bowel and peri-anal conditions and symptoms. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, perianal operations and minimally invasive keyhole surgery.
He graduated from the University of Bristol in 2009 before undertaking his surgical training in London. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2018 and completed his MD research degree at Imperial College and the Royal Marsden Hospital. Following his completion of training, he was awarded the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in Advanced Peritoneal Malignancy, spending a year training at the world-renowned Christie Hospital in Manchester.
He has been in a senior NHS post since 2022, when he was appointed as Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust. He currently serves as Robotic Surgery lead, having been instrumental in introducing this minimally invasive approach into the Trust in 2026.
Changes in bowel habit, pain and rectal bleeding can be concerning and debilitating. Through the systematic investigation and management of these conditions, Mr Day excels at putting the patient at the centre of the consultation process, taking the time to explain clearly and accurately how best to proceed with management options.
Outside of work, Mr Day has a young family and coaches football and rugby at junior level. He himself has significant sporting interests and is an avid golfer, a keen skier and will turn his hand to most sporting pursuits if given the opportunity.

Yes, but only for certain services. Some consultations, assessments, and treatments can be booked directly, while others require a GP or specialist referral. Please check the relevant service page for guidance, and contact the centre if you’re unsure.
We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
Mr Day took the time to listen to my issues, explained the results of my investigations superbly and gave me confidence the management plan. A lovely doctor
