Mr Rishi Dhir
Consultant Orthopaedic Upper Limb Surgeon
About Rishi Dhir
Mr Rishi Dhir is a triple fellowship-trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the full range of upper limb care, from shoulder to fingertip. His practice covers soft tissue shoulder problems including frozen shoulder, rotator cuff repair, instability and shoulder replacement; elbow conditions including arthritis and tennis elbow; and hand conditions including Dupuytren's disease, nerve decompression, and carpometacarpal joint replacement and fusion — as well as the full spectrum of upper limb trauma.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Dhir is a passionate educator. He founded Let's Talk Dr, now the world's most popular orthopaedic education platform, which has helped train more than 2,000 orthopaedic residents into consultants. He lectures internationally across Australasia, the Far East, India and South Africa, has authored numerous book chapters and books, and is an editor of the Hamilton & Bailey textbook.
His approach to patient care is grounded in evidence-based practice. He has presented research internationally and, early in his career, won three research grants working with the European Space Agency, helping put the first student experiment on the International Space Station.
Personal biography
Mr Dhir qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2006, having first completed a BSc in Neuroscience, graduating with first-class honours.
He undertook his basic surgical training in London, securing a place on the renowned and highly competitive Royal London rotation, before gaining entry to the specialist register as a general orthopaedic surgeon.
He then completed three prestigious fellowships in advanced shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, training at Edinburgh, Wrightington and Melbourne, Australia. Across these fellowships, he developed advanced open and arthroscopic techniques in upper limb management and complex upper limb trauma.
Mr Dhir was appointed Consultant Upper Limb Surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow in 2019. He also holds consultant positions at Rivers Hospital, Sawbridgeworth; HCA London Bridge and Canary Wharf; Nuffield Health; and Welbeck.
He is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society (BESS) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH).
Outside of medicine, Mr Dhir is a keen musician and sportsman. He is a passionate advocate of bouldering, cricket and tennis — it was on the tennis court that his own interest in upper limb injuries first took root, through first-hand understanding of pathology and injury.

We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
