About Taimur Shah
Mr Taimur Shah is an Associate Professor and Consultant Urologist at Imperial College London (ICL), with a specialist interest in prostate cancer diagnostics, advanced imaging, robotic surgery, focal therapy, and minimally invasive treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
His expertise and research in focal therapy encompass High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), irreversible electroporation (IRE/NanoKnife), and cryotherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer. These minimally invasive treatments are typically performed as day-case procedures, and can help preserve urinary continence and erectile function for appropriately selected patients. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in these fields, and is regularly invited to present his work at national and international scientific meetings.
He is also highly experienced in nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy using the da Vinci robotic surgical system, providing patients with access to the latest surgical innovations and nerve-sparing techniques, and has been actively involved in clinical research aimed at improving functional recovery and erectile outcomes following prostate cancer surgery.
As an investigator in the national TRANSFORM prostate cancer screening programme, he is helping shape the future of prostate cancer screening and early detection in the UK. A sought-after speaker and educator, he is regularly invited to teach surgeons internationally on advanced prostate MRI fusion biopsy techniques, focal therapy, and robotic prostate cancer surgery.
He graduated from University College London (UCL), where he also obtained a First-Class Honours degree in Molecular Medicine. He completed his specialist urological training within the London Deanery, rotating through some of the UK's leading institutions, including The Royal Marsden, Imperial College London, University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, where he undertook a fellowship in urological oncology and robotic surgery.
He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL), investigating focal therapy for both newly diagnosed prostate cancer and disease recurrence following radiotherapy. Throughout his academic career, he has played a key role in the design, delivery and leadership of multiple clinical trials in primary, metastatic and radio-recurrent prostate cancer. He is currently a member of the Imperial Prostate (IP) Group at Imperial College London, contributing to translational and clinical research aimed at improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer.
A strong advocate of collaborative and trainee-led research, Mr Shah served for five years as Vice-Chair of the British Urology Researchers in Surgical Training (BURST) Research Collaborative, supporting the development and delivery of large-scale multicentre studies and fostering the next generation of academic urologists.

Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications.
