About Hala Kanona

Mrs Hala Kanona is a leading consultant otologist and auditory implant surgeon at The Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, University College London Hospitals. She sub-specialises in the field of Otology (hearing and balance disorders) and Auditory implantation.

She undertook Higher Surgical Training in prestigious centres such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) and the Royal National ENT Hospital (UCLH). She was awarded the Advanced Otology and Auditory Implant Fellowship where she works and obtained the CWJ Fellowship Grant to visit the illustrious Radbound University Centre in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Mrs Kanona is passionate about hearing restoration and complex ear surgery and provides the full spectrum of care for patients suffering with hearing loss, ear discharge, dizziness/balance issues, tinnitus and facial weakness. She is highly experienced and takes a kind and compassionate approach to her patients.

Her extensive experience has been sought both nationally and internationally where she lectures within her field at courses and conferences and teaches as faculty at Temporal bone dissection courses in the UK and Denmark. She also leads and runs an Advanced Otology and Auditory Implants Course for junior Consultants at the Royal National ENT Hospital (UCLH), which is the first of its kind. She serves as a Medical Advisor for Facial Palsy UK and is a core member of the Facial Function multidisciplinary team.

Mrs Kanona is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), a member of the British Society of Otology and British Cochlear Implant Group. She takes an active role in research concerning the fields of otology, neuro-otology and auditory implantation with over 30 peer reviewed publications and is co-author chapters in 3 ENT textbooks. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Laryngology and Otology and The Journal of International Advanced Otology and regularly reviews textbooks for the ENT and Audiology News Journal.
