About Sinead Horgan

Sinead Horgan is a Genetic Counsellor with over six years of experience specializing in inherited cardiac conditions, rare diseases, and genomic medicine across both the United Kingdom and the United States. She previously worked at Barts Health NHS Trust, home to one of Europe’s largest and most internationally recognized inherited cardiac conditions services, where she provided highly specialized genetic counselling and testing for patients and families affected by arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, and sudden cardiac death syndromes.

Passionate about combining scientific precision with compassionate patient care, Sinead has built extensive expertise in cardiogenomics, variant interpretation, and the clinical application of genomic medicine. Her naturally curious approach to healthcare has driven her to continually expand her knowledge beyond traditional genetic counselling. She is committed to ensuring patients receive a comprehensive and accessible understanding of their genetic results, empowering them to make informed healthcare and family planning decisions.

Alongside her clinical practice, Sinead has contributed to important cardiogenomic research exploring conditions such as Desmoplakin (DSP)-related myocarditis, the role of SCN5A in cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in ethnic minority populations, and the reinterpretation of variants of uncertain significance within specialist cardiac cohorts. Her work has contributed to the evolving understanding of genotype-phenotype correlations and inherited cardiac disease management.

Throughout her career, Sinead has worked across pediatric and adult healthcare settings in both the UK and the United States, gaining extensive experience in the delivery of complex genetic counselling services within multidisciplinary teams. She has particular expertise in communicating complex genetic and cardiovascular information to patients and healthcare professionals, with a clinical focus on inherited cardiac conditions, family screening, and reproductive counselling. In addition to her clinical work, Sinead has contributed to service development initiatives aimed at improving patient pathways, expanding access to genetic services, and supporting education and training within genomic medicine. Through her work, teaching, and advocacy, she remains dedicated to advancing equitable, evidence-based, and compassionate genomic healthcare.
