Professor Ranee Thakar

Professor Ranee Thakar is a leading consultant urogynaecologist based in London, with an international reputation for excellence in women's pelvic health and childbirth trauma. She is an Honorary Professor of Women's Health at the University of Liverpool and has dedicated her career to improving the care of women with pelvic floor disorders.

Professor Thakar has particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of birth-related pelvic floor injuries, including obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI), perineal trauma and complex childbirth-related problems. She also specialises in the management of bladder and bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction and menopause-related pelvic floor symptoms. She offers a full range of evidence-based treatments, from personalised conservative management to advanced pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Recognised internationally for her leadership, Professor Thakar served as President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2022–2025) and previously as President of the International Urogynecological Association. She has received numerous national and international honours in recognition of her contribution to women's health.

Alongside her clinical practice, Professor Thakar is actively involved in research, education and training. She has published more than 200 scientific papers and has helped develop international guidelines and training programmes that have improved the care of women following childbirth worldwide. Her work has played a key role in raising standards of maternity care and reducing complications associated with birth injuries.
