Professor Suveer Singh

Professor Singh is consultant physician in respiratory medicine, with a special interest in sleep and ventilation disorders. On top of his work at Welbeck Lung Health, he practices at the Royal Brompton Hospital, and the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London. He is Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London.

His clinical and research interests are broad. They include early diagnostics in infection, general respiratory disorders, sleep disordered breathing including sleep apnoea, insomnia, pulmonary infection, asthma, COPD, interventional pulmonology, bronchoscopic diagnostics (EBUS), pre-operative bariatric assessment, post intensive care disorders, respiratory failure.

Personal Biography

Professor Singh is an experienced specialist in Respiratory Critical Care, severe acute respiratory failure (SARF), ECMO, ventilation and Acute respiratory infection. His clinical and research interests include Early diagnostic markers for ventilator associated pneumonia and Burns inhalation injury, bronchoscopy (EBUS and interventional), antibiotic stewardship, respiratory infection and post Intensive care disorders.

He qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals Medical School, with postgraduate training at Guy’s, King’s College, Royal Brompton, Chelsea and Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals, London.

His PhD into mechanisms of microvascular dysfunction in sepsis at the National Heart and Lung Institute, London and further subspecialty training (sleep medicine, ventilation, interstitial lung disease, and advanced bronchoscopy) in Respiratory medicine were at the Royal Brompton Hospital between 1996 and 2002.

Professor Singh has more than 18 years of consultant experience in Respiratory, cardiac, and Burns intensive care. He is a member of the national, platinum marked Royal Brompton ECMO-SARF service and lead of the SARF/ECMO follow up clinic., most recently a senior clinician during the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering frontline care, enabling extraordinary outcomes, following up survivors in his clinic, and publishing outcomes and international guidelines (respiratory care and bronchoscopy) whilst delivering undergraduate/postgraduate education during this extraordinary period.

He is an active clinical researcher, as a chief and principal investigator for multicentre trials of early diagnostic markers in pulmonary infection and sepsis (Inhale, Inhale-covid), weaning from ECMO and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction studies. Most recently he has completed the HICF-Welcome funded VAP/VAP2 multicentre studies in early diagnostics for pulmonary sepsis and several COVID related ICU publications, guidelines and studies(PHOSP). He has published over 100 peer reviewed articles. He supervises BSc, PhD and MD Fellows involved in academic research within Critical Care and Respiratory Medicine in studies of biomarkers for early diagnosis of VAP, Burns inhalation injury, abdominal sepsis, and the role of microvesicles in Burns injury, respiratory failure and sepsis. He has held grants from the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia and the Westminster Medical School Joint Research committee for MD studies.

He has had numerous international and national presentations in the USA, UK, Europe and India. He is a speaker at the British Thoracic Society winter meetings, Intensive Care Society, annual international Critical Care Symposium faculty member of the Indian Society of Intensive Care Medicine annual congress, Guest Speaker at the national Sleep Medicine conference India and the Hellenic Society of Trauma and Emergency Medicine .

He has close working relationships within the Academic departments of Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care, Immunology and the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College. He collaborates with in multi-centre studies both nationally and internationally.

During Covid-19 in 2020, he has been a senior frontline clinician, researcher, media opinion and educator. He ensured that Medical students had online access to the extra-ordinary medical events in the Imperial and London hospitals, through virtual seminars and novel technologies.
