Frequently asked questions
Yes, but only for certain services. Some consultations, assessments, and treatments can be booked directly, while others require a GP or specialist referral. Please check the relevant service page for guidance, and contact the centre if you’re unsure.
We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
Frequently asked questions
Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an intensive treatment that resets the immune system to stop it attacking the nervous system in aggressive or treatment-resistant multiple sclerosis (MS). Dr Turner is the HSCT lead at Barts Health NHS Trust and a founding member of the London HSCT panel, making him one of the most experienced neurologists in this field. He can advise whether HSCT is appropriate and coordinate the pathway for eligible patients.
Dr Turner offers several advanced migraine treatments for patients who have not responded to standard preventive medication, including Botox injections, CGRP therapies such as (Vyepti (eptinezumab) IV infusion, and greater occipital nerve injections. CGRP-targeting treatments are among the newest class of migraine preventives and can significantly reduce migraine frequency and severity. He tailors the treatment plan based on migraine pattern, previous treatments, and patient preference.
You should seek a neurological opinion if you’re experiencing progressive memory difficulties, confusion, personality changes, or problems with concentration that are affecting daily life. Dr Turner has expertise in neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease, and can arrange the appropriate investigations to determine the cause. Early diagnosis allows access to emerging treatments and support strategies that can help manage symptoms.
There is now a wide range of disease-modifying therapies for multiple sclerosis (MS), including ocrelizumab (Ocrevus), natalizumab (Tysabri), alemtuzumab, cladribine, and siponimod, among others. Dr Turner has been involved in clinical research on many of these treatments and has published extensively on MS therapeutics. He works with each patient to select the most effective therapy based on their MS type, disease activity, and individual risk profile.
Dr Turner investigates seizures using detailed clinical assessment and home video telemetry, which records brain activity over an extended period in the patient's own home to capture events that may not occur during a standard hospital EEG. This helps distinguish epileptic seizures from other causes of blackouts or collapses. Once diagnosed, he develops a personalised treatment plan that may include medication, lifestyle advice, and ongoing monitoring.
