About Jonathan Hoare

Dr Jonathan Hoare is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Partner at OneWelbeck, specialising in endoscopy and colonoscopy. He is an honorary senior lecturer at the Imperial College School of Medicine and was head of endoscopy for the Imperial College hospitals for 11 years, until 2018.

He is also a nationally accredited colonoscopist on the National Bowel Cancer Screening programme; and a medical adviser to the Barrett’s Oesophagus Campaign.

Dr Hoare’s research has included the colonoscopy insertion technique, for which he was awarded the Marsha Dreyer Prize by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, in 2015.

Career Highlights:

Dr Jonathan Hoare, MA, PhD, FRCP, is a consultant gastroenterologist at Welbeck Health and St Mary’s Hospital; part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

He trained at Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1993. He undertook a PhD as an MRC research fellow in viral hepatitis and gene therapy, from 1998 until 2001.

His clinical gastroenterology training was in various north London hospitals including a prolonged attachment at St Mark’s Hospital where he was the first Fujinon Advanced Endoscopy Fellow in 2006, before being appointed as consultant at St Mary’s.

In 2010, Dr Hoare was awarded a fellowship to study advanced endoscopic techniques at the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo.

His research interests include colonoscopy insertion technique, detection and treatment of early cancer in the GI tract and other aspects of luminal gastroenterology.

Dr Jonathan Hoare partnered with Welbeck Health Partners in 2018 to collaboratively develop the OneWelbeck Digestive Health Centre.
