What is an ISAC test?

The ISAC (ImmunoCAP Specific Allergen Chip) test is a blood test that uses advanced microchip technology to detect specific IgE antibodies to 112 different allergenic components from foods, airborne substances, and venoms, all in one test

It plays a vital role in improving allergy diagnosis, assessing risks in patients with systemic reactions, and identifying allergens for effective immunotherapy.

At Welbeck, this test is performed by our allergy specialists in our state-of-the-art Allergy centre.

Paediatrics

We offer appointments to paediatric patients aged 0 to 18. For full information on our paediatrics service, please visit our main Paediatrics page.

More information

The ISAC test requires only a small blood sample. Once this has been collected and analysed, your Welbeck allergist will provide a detailed report and discuss the findings with you at a follow-up consultation.

Depending on your results, your consultant may suggest both self-care and medical treatments to help you manage your allergies and any symptoms you experience.

The ISAC test is generally very safe because it only requires a small blood sample. Risks are minimal, but as with any blood test, you may experience:

  • mild discomfort or pain

  • bruising or slight bleeding

  • dizziness or light-headedness (rare)

  • infection at the needle site (rare)

Preparation for the ISAC test is simple – there is no fasting needed, and most medications, including antihistamines, do not interfere with results.

No special aftercare is needed after the ISAC test. You may have mild tenderness or bruising at the needle site, but this usually settles quickly, and you can return to normal activities straight away.

Please contact our Allergy centre for pricing information.

Frequently asked questions

Your results will be available after a few days, and your allergist will provide a detailed report with interpretation and recommendations at a follow-up appointment.

The test can pinpoint specific allergens causing your symptoms, guide treatment plans, and help assess suitability for allergen immunotherapy.

Not always. It can be used alongside skin prick tests, especially when a broader assessment of allergens is needed or when skin testing is not possible.

Unlike single-allergen tests, the ISAC test can check for 112 allergens at once.
