
About Ramzi Khamis
Professor Khamis is a Professor of Cardiology at Imperial College London, consultant cardiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and is the Clinical Director of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Ramzi holds a joint academic appointment at Imperial College London as a reader in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute. He is considered a key opinion leader in atherosclerosis, the pathology that leads to coronary artery disease and heart attacks, and a leading teaching hospital consultant with expertise in general cardiology, interventional cardiology and cardiac risk.
Professor Khamis carries out coronary angiography and angioplasty using advanced techniques. He is also the clinical lead for the high-risk atherosclerosis and cardio immune clinic at Imperial, treating complex cases.
Professor Khamis has a deep interest and is a leader in the research field of cardiovascular medicine. He and his team work on the innovative development of interventional cardiology technologies as well as new blood tests for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease which is the leading single cause of death globally.
During the COVID pandemic, Professor Khamis has led on the COVID response for Imperial Cardiology, and is treating patients with cardiovascular Long-COVID, myocarditis, cardiac complications of COVID as well as contributing to research and guidelines on Long-COVID.

His research interests include the development of a multimodality imaging strategy for the detection of vulnerable plaque in atherosclerosis; developing novel biomarkers in cardiovascular risk assessment and the understanding the role of antibodies in atherosclerosis.
In 2014, Professor Khamis was the winner of the British Cardiovascular Society Young Research Worker of the Year Award and a finalist at the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator of the Year Award. He was also British Atherosclerosis Society Young Investigator of the Year finalist 2013 and the winner of the British Atherosclerosis Binks travel award (Harvard Medical School) 2013.
