HairMetrx Scalp and Strand Analysis

HairMetrx is a simple outpatient imaging assessment that can be carried out by a Welbeck dermatologist during an initial consultation. It typically takes around 15 minutes and does not require any anaesthetic or recovery time.

The imaging itself is painless and non-invasive. It involves placing the HairMetrix device against the scalp to capture detailed images of hair follicles and skin. Because the process is quick and straightforward, it’s often used as a first step before starting any hair treatment programme.

An appointment with HairMatrx assessment will usually include:

• medical and hair history review – your specialist will ask about your symptoms, lifestyle, general health, and any recent changes that may affect your hair

• visual examination – your consultant will take a close look at your scalp and hair to assess density, texture, and overall condition

• digital or trichoscopic imaging – the HairMetrix device is moved over the head to produce magnified images of the scalp and hair follicles

• classification of hair concern – your clinician will identify patterns of hair loss or scalp issues

• personalised recommendation plan – you’ll receive tailored advice on next steps, which may include lifestyle changes, treatments, or further investigations

There’s no specific preparation required before your appointment.

However, to help ensure the most accurate assessment, you may wish to:

• arrive with clean, dry hair where possible

• avoid heavy styling products on the day of your appointment

• make a note of any recent changes in your health, medications, or lifestyle

• be ready to discuss your hair concerns and how long you’ve had them

There’s no recovery time required after a HairMetrx assessment.

You can return to your normal activities immediately after your appointment.

Following your assessment:

• your clinician will explain your results and what they mean

• you may receive personalised recommendations for treatment or further tests

• a follow-up consultation may be suggested if ongoing care is needed

• you can decide on the next steps at your own pace

HairMetrx is a very safe procedure, as it’s non-invasive and does not involve medication or injections. There are no known medical risks associated with this assessment.

The cost of a HairMetrx scalp and strand analysis is £25. This is in addition to the initial consultation cost, which varies per consultant.
