Weight Management

Led by world‑renowned gastroenterology and endocrinology specialists, our weight management service delivers a truly personalised, concierge experience. We match each patient with the most appropriate expert consultant, who guides them through a tailored programme combining advanced diagnostics, specialist assessment, and ongoing medical support—designed to help them achieve sustainable, clinically‑led weight loss.

What is weight management at Welbeck?

Our weight management service is a premium, consultant‑led programme that matches each patient with a leading gastroenterology or endocrinology specialist.

Designed around best clinical practice, the pathway provides in‑depth diagnostics, personalised treatment planning, and ongoing medical oversight to support safe, effective and sustainable weight loss.

We offer an integrated, premium pathway that can include GLP‑1 therapy when appropriate, alongside psychological support, specialist dietetic guidance, and personalised lifestyle strategies. This coordinated, whole‑person approach—overseen by your matched consultant—ensures a comprehensive and clinically grounded framework for long‑term weight management.

This service is particularly suited to individuals with more complex needs, including:

  • metabolic disease

  • fatty liver

  • thyroid conditions

  • diabetes risk

  • cardiovascular risk

The service is also suitable for preparing for bariatric surgery, and patients who’ve struggled with previous weight‑loss attempts and would benefit from structured medical supervision.

All assessments, treatment and follow‑up take place within Welbeck’s Digestive Health centre and Endocrinology centre, supported by our specialist nursing team.

More information

Before you can book a consultation, our team will arrange an initial screening call. You’ll be asked some questions about your weight management goals, past medical history, previous weight loss attempts, any conditions you have, and current medications. We then use this information to match you to the most appropriate consultant for your needs.

Once matched with a consultant, we can book your initial consultation. At your first appointment, your consultant will review your medical history, record your physical metrics, and arrange diagnostic tests, which will all take place on the same day.

Tests may include:

  • a full blood panel

  • gallbladder ultrasound

  • abdominal ultrasound

  • thyroid ultrasound

  • multiparametric MRI with cT1 scoring (optional add-on)

Once all necessary tests have been performed, your consultant will review your results at a multidisciplinary team meeting, where they’ll discuss and devise the most appropriate plan for your treatment and ongoing care. Your management plan will then be delivered to you at a follow-up consultation.

Treatments and care that we may provide as part of our weight management service may include:

  • GLP-1 medication

  • consultant-led weight management and monitoring

  • dietetic support

  • psychological therapy

  • onwards referral for further specialist care

Side effects related to the diagnostic tests carried out are minimal.

If you’re prescribed medications, you may experience some side effects, such as gastrointestinal symptoms related to GLP-1 medications.

Your consultant will explain the risks and possible side effects of any tests and treatments they recommend, so you feel safe and confident throughout your time under their care.

As mentioned, you must undergo a quick and simple triage process in order to be matched to a consultant for an initial consultation.

Any other preparation is minimal. Your consultant will provide you with any instructions in good time before your appointment if needed. For example, you may be required to fast before having certain blood tests.

If you’re prescribed a GLP-1, your consultant will ensure that you’re monitored for side effects in line with guidelines.

If you choose, your consultant can also provide an ongoing service, which includes:

  • quarterly review appointments with your consultant

  • nurse follow-ups

  • blood monitoring

  • medication management

  • pharmacy support

Pricing varies depending on the package and length of care you choose.

Please note that this service is not covered by insurers, so it is only available to self-paying patients.

  • diagnostics package: £2,000

  • ongoing treatment package: £2,000 per quarter, inclusive of medication costs

Premium add‑on services, such as multiparametric MRI and extended psychological or dietetic support, are available at preferential rates.

Your consultant and our team will guide you on which options may be most suitable based on your individual needs.

Frequently asked questions

You can self-refer directly; no GP referral is needed. Simply get in touch to arrange a triage call, and our team will guide you through the next steps.

The triage call is a brief initial conversation with our team before your first consultation is booked. You'll be asked about your weight management goals, medical history, any relevant conditions, previous weight loss attempts, and current medications. This helps us match you with the most appropriate consultant for your needs — either a gastroenterologist or an endocrinologist.

This service is not currently covered by health insurers and is available to self-paying patients only. Full pricing details are listed above, and our team can walk you through what is included in each package when you call.

GLP-1 therapy may be recommended as part of your treatment plan where clinically appropriate. At Welbeck, all prescribing is done under specialist consultant oversight, with ongoing monitoring and medication management included as part of your quarterly treatment package — ensuring you receive this medication safely, with continuity of care.

Our weight management service is open to anyone who would benefit from specialist‑led support, and our team will help ensure you are matched with the most appropriate consultant based on your individual needs.

For clinical safety reasons, the service is not suitable for individuals with:

  • a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma

  • multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2)

  • type 1 diabetes

  • severe gastrointestinal disorders (such as gastroparesis)

  • pancreatitis (past or current)

  • significant mental‑health–related conditions where specialist care is required

  • pregnancy (current)

  • age over 80

If any of these apply to you, our team will advise on alternative pathways or specialist support that may better meet your needs.
